How Many Months Till Training Camp?

Good morning and Happy Friday to all of our awesome readers across the Permian Basin. Without all of you the world would be filled with one less blog and I would be mumbling all these thoughts to myself! So without further ado here are my musings for this Friday.

The NFL draft kicked off with the Houston Texans picking Jadeveon Clowney with the number one pick. Blake Bortles was the first quarterback taken off the board at number three to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags surprised a lot of “experts” by taking Blake so high but I’m rooting for the UCF grad to turn that franchise around. Texas A&M star Johnny Football fell all the way to #22 where the Cleveland Browns picked him up. Not sure if Manziel will find the exciting night life he’s accustomed to in Northeast Ohio, but hopefully he can tone down his wild lifestyle and mature into a successful NFL quarterback. Round two of the draft starts tonight on ESPN at 7pm EST.

Superbowl Sunday is just two days away! Even though no Texas teams are involved this year, you can bet that we’ll all still be watching the big game. It has been estimated that 7 million people will miss work on the Monday after the Superbowl. So if you don’t see a terrific new blog posted on Monday then you’ll know why!

Thank God it’s Friday in the Permian Basin! The staff at Thrifty Nickel is excited for the weekend and you should be too. Weekends are great for relaxing, firing up the grill, watching football or even catching up on work you didn’t get done during the week. Tonight everyone should head on over to Ratliff stadium and cheer on the Permian Panthers as they square off against Midland Lee.

November is here and that means we can soon expect cool weather everyday for the next few months. While you might be cold blooded and despise the frigid chill of winter, don’t forgot how sweltering the Odessa/Midland area was this summer. So enjoy the cold while it’s here and spend some time outdoors this weekend.

Just Another Manic Monday!

What a great weekend for football here in Texas! I know it was raining pretty bad across the Permian Basin this weekend, but that didn’t stop more than a few of our Thrifty Nickel family from kicking back and enjoying some games from the couch. Yesterday the Houston Texans improved to 4-0 for the first time in franchise history with a beat down of the Titans 38-14 and tonight the Cowboys showdown against the Bears for all the world to see on Monday night.

Is Friday The Best Day Of The Week?

Friday is finally here, and you can smell the excitement in the air. Odessa looks to pick up its first win of the season at Abilene tonight, and Permian looks to get back on track at home vs. Midland. So if you’re traveling down I-20 to Abilene to root on the Broncos or staying local to watch the Panthers try and defeat Midland, have tons of fun and cheer your heart out tonight.
