One Week Till The Big Game!

After an exciting weekend, we’re down to four teams in the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament. Kentucky is the real surprise in that bunch, pulling off a thrilling last second victory thanks to an Aaron Harrison three pointer against Michigan yesterday. They’ll play number two seed Wisconsin in Arlington Saturday. Many people including the President had picked Michigan State to win it all, but it was not meant to be! The Spartans fell to seven seed UConn on Saturday night. The last team to go dancing in Arlington is none other than this writer’s pick to win the championship, the Florida Gators! We’ll have to wait till this weekend to see how the final four plays out, and the championship game will be held a week from today in front of more than 70,000 rowdy fans!

After watching so much great basketball over the weekend I’m amped up to see March Madness resume Thursday night. With only sixteen teams left to vie for the title, things should be pretty serious in this round. The first of Thursday’s games pits two underdogs in Dayton and Stanford against one another. The double digit seed that triumphs will go on to play the winner of UCLA vs Florida in the Elite Eight. The Gators were my pick to win it all this year so I’ll be cheering loud for them to beat the Bruins Thursday night. The other two games of the night will be Baylor vs Wisconsin and San Diego State playing number one seed Arizona. Good luck to all the remaining teams involved.

Hello and happy Monday to all of our wonderful readers. Hopefully you enjoyed all the Irish festivities over the weekend and were safe in doing so. I certainly used my Sunday morning to recuperate from a block party the night before. But Monday morning means I’m back in the saddle at work ready to bring you another week of the best Thrifty Nickel blog in all the land. If you think there’s a better one out there, then I’d be happy to read it!

March Madness has officially begun as the NCAA announced all the brackets and seeding last night on ESPN. The round of 64 doesn’t kick off until Thursday so you still have some time to fill out your bracket. I haven’t even started to fill mine out but I do like the Florida Gators as a favorite to win it all at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington April 7th. Even if you’re not the biggest basketball fan it might still be in your best interest to fill out a bracket this year. That is to say, only if one billion dollars in your bank account sounds good right about now! That’s right, Warren Buffett has announced that he will pay one billion dollars to anyone who can correctly guess the results of every NCAA tournament game this year. While the odds of doing so are astronomical, it’s still worth a shot! I don’t even know what I would do with a billion dollars, probably buy an island equipped with a hammock and lots of cold beverages. So if you don’t see anymore blogs after April 7th, you know where I’ll be!
