Get Thrifty with The Thrifty Nickel

The Thrifty Nickel

Thrifting, garage sale-ing, and buying used all make my heart sing, and with the Thrifty Nickel as my microphone any searching I could have done on my own magnifies tenfold. Aside from essentially being a garage sale in and of itself with all of the bargain listings in the Thrifty Nickel, they also have an entire section dedicated to the advertisements of garage sales all around the Permian Basin.

If you, like me, enjoy the feeling of searching through piles of people’s discarded junk hoping to find a coveted treasure, the Thrifty Nickel can help you on your thrifty archaeological dig. Or, if you, more practically, have something specific in mind, peruse the Thrifty Nickel pages to see what each garage sale holds in store.

Buying new, especially for things like children’s clothing, makes very little sense. Brand new anything is expensive, but with baby clothes? Tykes grow incredibly quickly, leaving their parents with little baby clothing cocoons that, unless they plan on expanding the family further, have no real use once the babes are grown. Plus, the most amazing part of garage sale-ing is that, typically, the clothing you find, or the toys you see, are not from this year, or even last year. This allows you, the consumer, to find items more unique than you’d find in a store where everything sits in triplicate or quadruplicate on the shelves.

And, of course, there are other items to be found at garage sales and in thrift stores that are timeless, like tools. If anything, I trust a hammer that’s 20 years old more than a new one because it has proved it can stand the test of time. It’s also going to be a much more experienced hammer, having put more than a few nails in their place in its time, than the virginal no-nothing hammer you could buy at Walgreens.
